Did Jesus Come to Bring Peace to the Whole Earth?

No, not the first time He came, but yes, He will, upon His return.

Why didn’t He come to bring peace the first time? Because the world does not know Him. Because the world continues to reject Him. The world does not accept Him, as the Prince of Peace.

However, for true believers, He does bring peace – a peace that transcends all human understanding.

Jesus said he came not to bring peace – yet he is called the Prince of Peace.

How can this be? Does the Bible contradict itself?

Isa 9:6
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Luke 12:51 Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division.

Jesus said he came to bring a sword

Matt 10:34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

Yet, Jesus told Peter to put away his sword

John 18:11 Jesus commanded Peter, “Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?”

Matt 26:52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all, who draw the sword will die by the sword.”

Those who live by the sword will die by the sword. While this is referring to the physical sword it also applies to the spiritual sword – the living word of God

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Jesus sword (His word) divided families because some would believe in Him and some wouldn’t believe in Him, in this age.

Luke 12:52-53 52 From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. 53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

You will live by the Word of God or you will die by the Word of God.

And if you do not live by faith in the word of God, you will die. You will not receive the gift of eternal life. If you do not surrender your life to Jesus Christ, who is the resurrection and the life, you will die.

However, when you come to truly believe in the word of God, and God lives in you and, you will have died – meaning you no longer live to satisfy your natural, carnal or fleshly desires, which are enmity against God.

Rom 8:7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.

Gal 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Jesus is our peace and His purpose is to create peace in one new humanity.

Eph 2:14-15 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups (Jews and Gentiles) one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace,

Col 1:20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

The truth is, true peace can only come through belief in the Son of God, Jesus Christ, and through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in each and every person. To achieve this peace, not man’s peace, but God’s peace, God will put His laws in everyone’s heart and write them on everyone’s mind.

Heb 10:16 “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.”

Then, we shall all become the children of God!

Matt 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
